When I hear the Drums

When I hear the drums,
I think,
They sound so good.
From far away or close at hand,
They sound so good.

When I hear the drums,
I think,
Another war in my lifetime,
Is upon us again.
Mothers will lose their sons,
In time.

When I hear the drums,
I think,
Fathers are getting ready to kill,
Or die.  Whether for me or not,
I do not know.

When I hear the drums,
I think,
I need to get my drum,
And play along, or
Perhaps just listen some more.

When I hear the drums,
I think, of war
Sometimes, and sometimes
I just hear the drums.
